This is a development of the previouse stool. I changed the direction of the seat slat and included a seating profile (curve). MDF crack very easily when pressure is put on its edges. Therefore I need to find different way of putting things together. I like the idea of not using any fastener such as screws or glue. I like the idea of a flat pack furniture and can be assemble.
This is a cube storage unit that is collapsible. The idea came from the materials itself. Working with scraps is a challenge, because they comes with odd sizes and shapes and aften too small to do anything. Without having to glue things together to make a bigger panel, I decided to rip it into small strips and work from there. This way i create a much lesser wastes. For example, if i have a 400x400mm scrape panel and I rip it into 10 or 20mm strips then I have no left over(off-cuts) from that panel. The only waste would be the 4mm strips that turned into dust by the saw blade, which cannot be aviod.
Exploring the possibilities by mismatching the grains. Eight pieces joint together to create this pattern. Work like this one is very hard to hide the joint lines so I thought about expose it by mixed glue and paint together to bring out the joint lines. This did not work well, as the glue soaked into the grains of the vineer it is very very to get it out. The vineer is only 0.5mm thick so sanding is not the way to go. Also, it is very hard to put together as each pieces glide through one another when clamping it.
However, every cuts of this particular piece needs to be very very accurate, which I think cannot be achieve with machine here at unitec.
Working with off cuts/scraps material is always a challenge. They comes in all sorts all sizes and shapes and often require glueing together to make bigger panel for use, which is very hard to get it perfectly flat and invesible. Joint lines are deliberatly hid away beneth a thin vineer or a paint job, because it is considerate as unattractive. My intention is to here is to deliberatly expose that the joint lines by mix the glue with paint before applying to the work.
